چکیده

Previous research which analyzed the performance of a convolutionally coded CDMA system with a MMSE receiver for interference suppression showed that lower rate codes are not always the best choice on Rayleigh fading channels. In this paper, we analyze the performance of a turbo-coded CDMA system with the MMSE receiver. Theoretical bounds are derived based on the optimum tap weights of the MMSE receiver and the tangential bounds of turbo codes. Simulation results incorporating the effects of finite interleaving and RLS adaptation are also presented. The results show that with the MMSE receiver, the high rate turbo code is the best choice. They also show that, except for a bit error rate (BER) lower than 10−3, the capacity of the system is not increased by using turbo codes with small block sizes. ∗This work was supported by the National Science Foundation, TRW, CoRe project and Center for Wireless Communcations, UCSD.

On the Optimal Allocation of Bandwidth for Source Coding, Channel Coding and Spreading in a Coherent DS-CDMA System Employing an MMSE Receiver

ABSTRACT This paper analyzes a CDMA system with a continuous uniform source, a scalar quantizer, and a hard decision block channel coder, under the constraint of fixed total bandwidth. The system employs a linear, minimum mean-square-error (MMSE) receiver for interference suppression. We study the performance for both additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and flat Rayleigh fading channels. The a...

Combined MMSE interference suppression and turbo coding for a coherent DS-CDMA system

The performance of a turbo-coded code division multiaccess system with a minimum mean-square error (MMSE) receiver for interference suppression is analyzed on a Rayleigh fading channel. In order to accurately estimate the performance of the turbo coding, two improvements are proposed on the conventional union bounds: the information of the minimum distance of a particular turbo interleaver is u...

Chip Interleaving for DS-CDMA with Frequency Domain Equalization in a Frequency Selective Rayleigh Fading Channel

Abstract DS-CDMA with frequency domain minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalization can provide much better performance than that with rake combining in a frequency selective fading channel. Chip interleaving is a form of channel interleaving that improves the DS-CDMA performance by converting the channel into a highly time selective channel. When frequency domain equalization is used, the fre...

Bit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...

A comparison of long versus short spreading sequences in coded asynchronous DS-CDMA systems

The performance of turbo-coded asynchronous direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) using long and short spreading sequences is compared by both analysis and simulation. For coded systems with a conventional matched filter (MF) receiver, three analytical methods with different complexity are compared: the standard Gaussian approximation, the improved Gaussian approximation (IGA)...
